It was Friday night, 7:45 PM. The setting is New York City. A man is in a dressing room, getting
makeup on. He's putting on a chef hat and waiting for
his queue. The name of this man is Chase Garlic. This
man is a TV chef for the program, "Garlic-Eitur." Chase
is on a cooking show where he and his co-chef, Adrian
Eitur, cook nothing but Italian food. This is actually a
very boring program that gets less and less viewers each
week. But the manager of the show still wants to keep it
running for some unknown reason! Chase also wants to
stop the show, and most importantly, he wants to quit.
"I hate this job!" said Chase while getting his makeup
done. "I never get paid that much anyways, I can't get
the respect I deserve, and my parents only made me do
this so I can build up the family fortune! I don't want
to be a TV chef. I want to be a golfer!"
For a long time, since childhood, Chase Garlic always
had an interest for golf. He attended Pepperdine
University and he was one of
the pro players on the golf team. In fact, his parents
encouraged him to keep up the good work. Unfortunately,
one day, Chase was doing a victory dance while making a
shot all the way from the fairway. While dancing, Chase
fell into a pond and broke his leg. His parents were so
worried, that they forbid him from golfing anymore, and
wanted him to instead be a TV chef, going back to his
torturous Jr. High class.
"Show time in five!" shouted the sound director. Chase
knew he had to go through another dreadful hour of
cooking senseless food that he doesn't even like. Chase
and his co-chef, Adrian, went onto the stage. Chase
looked over and saw Nikki Treed, the model for the show.
Chase had a large crush on the model. For over four
years, Chase has watched Nikki do her stuff on the show,
but he's never had the courage to ask her out. Then the
director started to count backwards from five. The show
was starting. Chase had to do this again whether he
wanted to or not.
"I've had it!" yelled Chase when they were done with the
shooting. "I can't take it anymore! I'm quitting this
job! It's official! I'm quitting! I'm quitting! I'm
quitting!
"Whoa, psychopath." Adrian said, listening into his
trailer. "I thought you loved this job. Don't worry.
You're not alone. I also want to quit."
"What!?" exclaimed Chase in confusion. "What do you mean
you want to quit? I thought you loved this job?" Adrian
just looked at Chase with a bit of a sad look and said,
"Nope. This is torture. I also want to quit. All these
four years of being on this senseless show, I wanted to
be a sailor. I want to go out into the world and see the
ocean. What do you want to be?"
"I want to be a golfer." said Chase coyly. "I want to be
the next Tiger Woods. I want to win the regional golf
championships and be the ultimate sports celebrity."
Chase then got a depressed sort of look. "Only problem
is, I can't quit and let everyone here down."
"I understand" replied Adrian. "If you quit, then
everyone here will hate you." Adrian and Chase then both
shared sheepish looks at each other. "But... what if...
we got... fired!"
"Fired?!" exclaimed Chase. "We get fired? Are you mad?"
Adrian got a devilish look on his face. "If we get
fired, then we'll have to get kicked out of this insane
job, and be able to fulfill both of our dreams!"
"What are we going to do?" asked Chase.
"Here's the plan." replied Adrian. "We kidnap Nikki
Treed, and hold her hostage in my house. We'll pretend
to act really stupid and have the cops catch us. When
they do, we'll explain it was a big misunderstanding. So then our boss will
totally fire us and we'll be off and away!"
Chase's frown soon increased into a grin. "Actually,
that sounds like a brilliant idea! Let's do it tonight!"
That night, Chase and Adrian broke into the studio.
Nikki is always there late, rehearsing for the next
show. Chase walked into the set with a rope.
"I don't feel comfortable doing this." muttered Adrian.
"Don't you want to get fired? Don't you want to fulfill
your dream of being a golfer? Don't you want to be the
next Tiger Woods?" questioned Adrian continuously.
"Yes. Yes I do! In fact, I'm just going to do it quickly
and get it over with!" After Chase said this, he used
the rope to tie Nikki up. Moments
later, the sirens went off. The cops came running out of
the doors and surrounded Chase with rifles.
"Charles Bryan Garlic, you are under arrest." said the
chief. It happened. Chase was arrested. The next
morning, Chase was put into the New York Detention
Center. For three days he was rotting it up in the cell.
Then, on the third day, Adrian comes by to visit.
"Adrian? What are you doing here? Are you aware that
you've got me arrested?"
"Exactly." replied Adrian. "I'm here to tell you the
truth.
"What truth?"
"I never wanted to be a sailor. I actually wanted you
out of the picture. I love my job as a TV chef. I love
it more than myself in fact. I planned this kidnapping
of Nikki so you'll get arrested and I'll have the show
all to myself and be the most famous TV chef on cable.
In addition, Nikki Treed will be mine! Mwahaha!"
Chase was filled with disbelief when he heard this.
Adrian planned this so he'll be famous alone. Also, that
he'll take Chase's love interest and have her for
himself.
The next couple of weeks, Chase continued rotting it up
in the cell. Then finally, Chase has had enough. One
day, he convinced the guards as sweetly as he could that
they made a big misunderstanding. After a while, the
conviction worked. The officer watched the full video of
the napping. They soon tuned in after the cops left.
Adrian was standing right in the middle of the room. He
said in a confident voice,
"Yes! Now that I got Chase Garlic arrested, I can have
this talk show all to myself and Nikki Treed will be
mine! I'm so glad Garlic was stupid enough to believe I
wanted to get fired with him, and that I set him up to
get arrested!"
That very next, minute, all the cops left the police
department and headed straight to the studio, where they
were shooting the Garlic-Eitur show, which now is called
just the Adrian Eitur show.
"Adrian Theodore Eitur, you are under arrest!"
Adrian was soon arrested and jailed. Chase was removed
from the New York Detention Center. Chase then walked up
to his boss.
"Sir, I'm very sorry to tell you this, but I just don't
want to do this show anymore. I feel that I should
follow my life's dream to become a world famous golfer.
No one even watches this show. Since I don't want to do
it, why bother continue? I say that the best way to
satisfy your life is to do what your heart is telling
you to do. My heart is telling me to play golf. If golf
I must, then golf I shall!"
"Garlic, you've touched me there." said the boss. "And
you're right. You should play golf if you don't want to
do this. And that's okay. I'm not forcing you to keep
doing this show. Do what you want to do. If you're
happy, then I'm happy for you."
Chase and his boss smiled at each other. Then the boss
went into his office and ripped up Chase's contract. The
very next day, Chase signed up for the regional golf
championships in Tucson.
Twenty years have passed, and Chase became a serious
golfer. He won sixteen golf world cups, and is now a
golf coach at Pepperdine University. In addition, he
finally picked up the courage to ask Nikki Treed on a
date. Over the years, they got married and had three
kids. Chase's kids have also learned golf and are
following their father. Of all these years, Chase never
forgot how Adrian betrayed him and he learned that you
can't let your forced career stand in the way of your
dreams. If your heart's telling you to do something,
just do it, and you will be satisfied.
